In this episode our topic is, “One Employee That Files Multiple HR Complaints; Problem or Present?” In this show we discuss A Stone* of Solutions™ including: 1) Present. 2) You don't know what you don't know. 3) Information is always an advantage over no information. 4) HR complaints are positive as the team member is asking for help.. 5) The team member is asking for help, internally within the organization! This is very good. 6) When team members do not file internal HR complaints but instead file externally (government agencies, oversight, media reports, lawsuit filed, etc.), it is very bad. 7) Internal complaints provide HR HEROES an opportunity to simultaneously gain information and work to resolve the issues internally. 8) The employee has some level of trust in HR when they file complaints. 9) If the employee thought that HR would not be able to do anything to meet their needs, they would not file at all with HR. 10) Even the very rare false complaint filer (those who abuse the system) is a positive present (a gift) to HR. The false complaint filer wants something (attention, revenge, approval, power, etc.). 11) HR HEROES are experts at discerning the motive behind the actions that people engage in. When the motive for the multiple HR complaints is understood, an effective strategy is able to be crafted and executed. 12) If there is a challenge (or problem) with a department, unit or group, the multiple HR complaints are early warning signs for HR to prevent the challenges from spreading and infecting the entire organization (personnel changes, training, progressive discipline, investigation, etc.). 13) If there is a challenge (or problem) with the multiple HR compliant filer themselves, the multiple HR complaints are early warning signs for HR to prevent the challenges from spreading and infecting the entire organization (EAP referral, counseling, leave, support, etc.). 14) Workplace safety is positively impacted by multiple HR complaint filers (for both probable perpetrators and victims). A cry for help is an opportunity to help. BONUS: No HR complaints = very bad and dangerous sign. Silence is deadly for an organization. HR complaints, even multiple ones from one team member, serve as valuable warning signs to prevent problems and also allow HR HEROES to remain tied in to the events in the lives of their staff (what a present they are!).
