TALK SHOW EPISODE NOTESIn our JOYFUL ART OF BUSINESS™ series we explore how to combine the positive benefits of our professional endeavors (“business”) with the overall positive emotional return on our efforts (“joy”). The act of engaging in professional endeavors, in any capacity (i.e., as an employee, employer, entrepreneur, contractor, volunteer, paid, full time, part time, intermittently, etc.) is an expression of our ideas and creative talents (“art”).
In this episode our topic is, “You Don’t Need To Be THE BEST; You Just Need To BE (THERE).” In this show we discuss A Stone* of Solutions™ including: 1) Why I love this show topic! 2) There is so much that people complain about and/ or use as excuses for why they have failed to surpass their goals in life (bad luck, bad timing, not born rich, not born famous, etc.). 3) The reality is that simply showing up in life is the key to amazing opportunities. 4) I have spoken with people who have given me all kinds of rationalizations regarding why they are unhappy and they overlook the immense power of simple presence. 5) Just be there. 6) You don’t have to worry about more than that step in many instances. 7) If none of the people who you think are better than you, smarter than you, more talented than you, better looking than you, better educated than you, etc., show up; by default you will often be selected. 8) The idiot politician. The incompetent boss. The yucky looking person with a great spouse. The stupid business owner. The famous singer who “has no talent.” The “singer” who has a terrible voice. How did they do it? They all showed up. You didn’t. 9) That is why they are where they are and you aren’t. 10) You know who they are and they don’t know who you are. 11) You are complaining. They are often earning more money than you, they have more opportunities than you do and they are (in many instances) rather happy. 12) You seethe with jealousy and lament that it “should have been you up there.” 13) Why isn’t it? 14) You didn’t show up. Show up for this show! *A stone is unit of measure equaling 14 pounds (so we have 14 elements in our one stone of solutions!). |
