TALK SHOW EPISODE NOTESIn the MYTH WARRIORS™ series we are targeting ideas to begin to assess whether they are credible or not. We are warriors fighting to establish clarity between what is accurate and what is simply a myth (or falsehood) in life. We are deploying our highest level critical thinking skills in this series to fight to ensure that we are not taken advantage of or exploited by information disparities. We don both defensive protective gear and offensive weaponry. On offense we thrust forward, probing, testing and examining content to discern if it should be defeated and discarded (as a lie) or retained and utilized in our lives in our mission to surpass our goals.
This is not a series for the weak minded or fearful as we will leave no stone unturned in our quest to ensure that we are not exploited, not ignored and not used as pawns by powerful people. Our education (formal and informal) is our most powerful weapon to equalize our opportunities for success (on our own terms). Our episode today is, “Failing To Plan Is Planning To Fail.” This is not a myth, It is accurate. The issue is why do you have the goal of failure? Why do you want to fail? Imagine an adolescent child that is told by their parents that they are going to learn to play the flute. (I wanted to play the flute when I was younger but never learned, anyway, back to the example.) They are provided a flute and enrolled in flute lessons. The child couldn’t care less about the flute. They do not practice between lessons. They lie to their parents when asked about practicing and state that they did so. They do not think about the flute at all other than when they are forced to go to their flute teacher. They try out for the school band and due to their lack of skill they are not accepted. They have seemingly failed. Their parents are disappointed (perhaps even angry due the fees associated with acquiring the flute and the flute lessons). Has the child actually failed? No. They had a plan. They succeeded. The failure to learn the flute was what they wanted. They did not have the personal power to simply tell their parents that they didn’t want to play the flute (or to have their wishes respected). So, they set a goal, implemented an action plan of not practicing, not putting in any time or effort and they achieved their goal (not to have to play flute in the school band). This is not an example of “failing to plan is planning to fail.” This is an example of planning and meeting a goal. What if the child had followed all of their parents instructions and practiced everyday (as they were told to)? What if they had then been selected into the school band and had to play the flute for the next several years? They would be miserable and that would be a result of them failing to plan. They simply acquiesced to someone else’s plan (their parents) and they failed to reach their goal (to be able to stop playing the flute). Of course, lying to parents is not appropriate. You are not an adolescent child. How are you continuing to make choices that make you miserable? (Why you are doing so is already understood!) In this show we walk through this episode concept and address head-on what gets and keeps adults trapped into lives that they don’t want. 1) All action is action. 2) Who is in charge of your life? Let’s plan to surpass our goals together in this show! |
